D30 challenge: Day 2

Poison

The photo is fading,
it chooses to remember
six beaming smiles
and booming greys,
standing shoulder to shoulder
among the eucalpyts
of their mother’s garden.

Six broad-chested men,
six broad-bellied men;
each still plucking apples from their
mother’s eyes.

It’s quite easy to be fooled
into calling it low hanging fruit
when there’s so much space
for seeds to grow from their trunks.

The photo is fading,
but still some remember
seven beaming smiles,
six blooming blacks
and one willowy brown,
standing shoulder to shoulder
among the eucalypts
of their mother’s garden.

Six broad-chested boys,
six soft-bellied boys
and one blossoming girl;
each plucking apples from their
mother’s eyes.

It’s quite hard to be fooled
into calling it low hanging fruit
when there’s no space
left to grow beyond a seed.
